This is Latina's State of Mind, a podcast created by Latinas for all audiences, where we can share our experiences about love, life and everything in between.
Speaker 1:We have a pretty cool episode today. We're going to be talking about dreams good ones, bad ones, creepy ones, scary ones and everything in between.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I'm excited.
Speaker 1:What has been the most memorable dream that you guys have had.
Speaker 3:A scary dream, can I tell?
Speaker 1:you.
Speaker 3:Yeah same, oh, I'll Okay. So I suffer from sleep paralysis. That's scary. Have you guys ever heard about this yeah, Okay. Well, can you explain this for the people that don't we know but like yeah, so I don't know like any technical or like medical stuff, but it's when, basically, your brain wakes up before your body and then, like your conscious knows that you're awake, or but your body doesn't know, so you can't really move.
Speaker 2:Do you?
Speaker 3:see things. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Okay, my parents had been fighting that night. It was like a long, long time ago, and I don't know what it was. I oh got it. I had watched a show called a hunting and it's like it just tells you like stories of like scary things that had happened to people, and so I don't know why or how the sleep paralysis and the dream like happen at the same time. So I was dreaming of this like demon thing outside of my, of my window, and so, like in my dream, I woke up and like opened the window and the character in the show was out there and like I could see his black eyes, and then I was like trying to like run, and then I opened my eyes because I knew it was a nightmare, but then I was having sleep paralysis and I couldn't wait, like I couldn't move my body, but then I was like still dreaming.
Speaker 3:So then I just like kept seeing shadows and like I consciously knew that I was dreaming and that this was happening, but I was so terrified because of the sleep paralysis that I couldn't like wake up and I couldn't wake my body up and I was like trying to like scream for help and when you have sleep paralysis you can't scream or do anything. So like I went back to sleep and then I dreamt that I was like running to my mom's room to get help and then I finally felt safe in that room, and then I try to woke up again and I keep seeing this shadow and then I like had a Bible in my, in my room. So like in my dreams I'm like fighting with this shadow being in. Like it was just the hot mess and all in sleep paralysis, like I could not wake myself up. And when I finally woke up I was like I want my mommy.
Speaker 3:And I was like 28 or 29. I just went into my mom's room. I was like I was having a nightmare.
Speaker 1:It was terrifying to this day, like I think about it, and I think it was just like that mixture of the sleep paralysis, with a scary dream that I just like not fun being in that space where you know that you're sleeping, but it feels so real at the same time and you want to wake up and terrifying. Yeah, I don't think that's ever happened to me.
Speaker 2:I think it has happened to me. But I have this weird brain. I'm like oh, my gosh, just wake up. So I, and I'm like you can move here. I tell myself stop it. You can move your body and I'm like okay, move your body. And I'm like yeah, but that's just me Like it has happened.
Speaker 3:I'm like, I'm cool, like that.
Speaker 2:I know I hate saying it because I'm like I know a lot of people don't function the same way.
Speaker 3:No, I can't like, but I learned to wake myself up Know that that's what it was, cause at first it was really scary, cause I didn't know what it was.
Speaker 1:So it's happened more than once.
Speaker 3:Oh yeah, Um, I think when I'm in high levels of stress is when it happens. I was about to ask um but I feel like I can rationalize it and I can like tell my body like hey, it's this is. You're still asleep, wake yourself like, move, like, start moving. But it's hard for my brain to get there to catch up.
Speaker 2:So I don't struggle with that, but I've never had a creep like something so creepy like that. Yeah. It's usually more like oh wait, you're awake but you can't move. Okay, body, you can move, and then I move. Okay, come on, that's crazy. Yeah, I think it's really weird, but it's, it's only happened like twice. I can only remember twice doing that. It's not a real thing.
Speaker 1:I don't know what I would do if that happened to me.
Speaker 2:Just tell your body to wake up. Yeah, Just see if it okay Body moves.
Speaker 3:Girl move Girl. You got this Okay. Now you guys have to share a dream, okay.
Speaker 1:Um, I think the because if I'm sure it happens to you guys too, but it's hard to remember your dreams At least it is for me. But I had. I used to have these dreams when I was little, of a like clown situation chasing situation.
Speaker 2:Were you scared of clowns as a kid I?
Speaker 1:don't think I've ever been scared of clowns. I wonder if it was just like movies that I was watching at that time. It was like it was a nightmare. So it was scary at the time because I was being chased. But this was a recurring dream, so it would happen maybe like every week it happened. And it would just like continue from the previous kind of like I was in a movie.
Speaker 3:Your brain was creating its own movie.
Speaker 1:Yes, it was the weirdest thing. So I mean, I still remember it and it was when I was little, still living in Juarez, and it was wild and scary and was it just chasing you?
Speaker 2:Do you remember like the kind of what was around you?
Speaker 1:I don't, really not, not anymore. I don't remember specifics. I remember like a lot of red, so I don't know if there was like fire maybe, maybe but yeah, and you were scared, I was scared.
Speaker 3:I wonder if there's like a meaning to it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2:I think so.
Speaker 3:It's got to be right.
Speaker 1:I feel like it's, I guess, normal to have nightmares. The weird part for me was that it continued.
Speaker 3:Yeah, like that it went on. Yeah, because it wasn't like consecutive nights.
Speaker 1:It would be like tonight and then next week again, and it was continuing from last week.
Speaker 2:So it was just creepy how your brain would save that, Not your awake brain, I guess your.
Speaker 3:REM brain remembered that and then it continued it. Yeah, that's a little, that's a little bit crazy, that is crazy, that's crazy.
Speaker 2:I've had those weird occurring dreams, though, and I was also a child and I was living in Mexico and I still remember it.
Speaker 2:So we used to live. So my on my mom's side they have a bakery and it's been like a bakery for ages and I would have a dream that a vampire would chase me around the bakery, like the like not the, not the customer side, but like the where you actually bake, and it would chase me around the table, like the huge table where they would do whatever they were doing. And I just have this dream of just running around and all I could remember it was being so small and then the vampire being so big and I was able to run around and then just seeing like sacks of flour around me.
Speaker 3:I know.
Speaker 2:It was, and it that was it. It was just us running around me being chased by this vampire, and you said this was a reoccurring dream.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's crazy.
Speaker 2:I mean, I just want to see where like it would kind of start, where it would be stopped at, I guess. But it was a recurring dream that I was being chased around this bakery. And so now you know, now that I'm talking about this, I'm like what if there's like something there to that bakery?
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, it's interesting because in mine it wasn't a place that I could recognize.
Speaker 2:That is different, yeah, but yeah.
Speaker 1:Did it ever catch you? No, ok.
Speaker 3:Did it ever catch you?
Speaker 2:Yeah, I don't think so I don't remember how it ended and why, but Interesting, so I don't know a lot about the meanings of the dreams, but I do find it really important how you felt in that dream.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:So you know, if it was a good dream, like great, or you feel it felt good, if you had felt positive vibes and good, but yeah, I think that's the good omen. But I don't know how I feel about bad dreams, my recurring dream is a tsunami dream. That is so wild, yeah, so scary.
Speaker 3:I can, like I can. It's usually me hanging out with my niece, like one of my nieces are nephews and like I just watched the water leave the shore.
Speaker 2:Oh, like how they retreat.
Speaker 3:Yeah, then I just see the wave rise and I'm like conscious that it's coming at us, and then I just have to figure out how to like grab the kid whatever kid it is that I'm with that time and like try to like find higher ground, and every single time it's just like this terrible, just like it's a mess.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's just like a mess of emotions trying to figure out. And then I looked it up once and I said that it was change, and I'm terrified of change, so like when, when change is happening that's when those streams come like people dream of, like water, that way.
Speaker 2:Oh, it was interesting. It was related to water.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I was thinking like because you love the water. So I was like whoa, what has something to do with it?
Speaker 3:But like murky water, like water rising, like that or like water and like those way is equals like scary change for people, Like when people have those streams. I think Right yeah.
Speaker 1:So that's so interesting. Yeah, that's really scary yeah.
Speaker 2:I pulled up a list of common dreams. First one dreams about falling.
Speaker 1:Anyone have a I think, like when you're barely falling asleep.
Speaker 2:Oh, we love the jump moment. Yeah, and you're like laying down.
Speaker 1:It would happen to me on the couch a lot and I'd be laying down and then I'll just like feel like I was falling.
Speaker 2:Do you have any like dream about that, like where you falling, like it was more like just the feeling. Just the feeling of it yeah. I don't think.
Speaker 3:I've ever had a dream about falling. That's good.
Speaker 2:Let's see what it means. Dreams about are very common. Oh, falling dreams are a sign that something in your life isn't going well. Right, my suggestion you need to rethink a choice, for instance, or consider a new direction in some area of your life.
Speaker 1:All right, Good to know.
Speaker 3:Ok, is there, is there a interpretation for chasing, for being chased.
Speaker 2:Being. Oh yeah, that's the third one the most common.
Speaker 3:Really yeah. What's the second one?
Speaker 2:Sorry. Second one is dreams about being naked and public.
Speaker 1:Never. No, I've never had this issue.
Speaker 2:That's interesting, I mean not issue, but this dream. Ok, let's look it up, what it means, let's see. It's hardly unusual. So I'll suggest you feel oh I know, I'm sorry, I want to know myself. Together, dreaming of public nudity might indicate that you feel like a phony or that you are afraid of revealing your imperfections and shortcomings. Oh so, hopefully. Well, maybe we feel safe in displaying those. So I guess that's what we haven't dreamt it.
Speaker 1:Anyways.
Speaker 2:Interesting the dreams about being chased. Yes, it's the third most common dream, and let's see, let's see. Let me go through this real quick. So there, oh, I guess it changes because you could be chased by an animal, a known or member of the opposite sex. So, unknown chaser. If your pursuer is a mysterious, unknown figure, it might represent a childhood experience or past trauma. But we, at least in myself, I was a child and I had a little child.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I was going to say maybe something scared you as a kid and you it's so weird.
Speaker 1:I wonder if it was just like movies.
Speaker 3:Yeah, probably watched a movie and it just like triggers something.
Speaker 1:Maybe I watched it and you watched Twilight. They have Twilight in Mexico.
Speaker 3:Dracula movie with Brad Pitt. It was a diary of a vampire.
Speaker 2:You know what I'm thinking? No, a diary of a vampire, something like that. I guess what she said oh, I'm sorry I didn't, I wasn't listening to you. Anyways, this suggests that being chased in a dream might indicate a desire to escape from your own fears or desires Interesting.
Speaker 3:Your own fears. Interview with a vampire.
Speaker 2:Interview with a vampire Interview. I was supposed to read out for a class and I never did.
Speaker 3:I think I did like it's probably a long. It was like a quest, no.
Speaker 2:Cliff Notes Like Cliff Notes, that shit.
Speaker 3:Anyways.
Speaker 2:Have you guys ever had dreams about losing teeth?
Speaker 3:Yes, really.
Speaker 1:I don't think so. You have yeah, just like randomly, they sort of fall in love.
Speaker 3:Like teeth will fall off, and I think I always thought it was because I like my teeth. Now it's afraid of losing my teeth. But what does it mean?
Speaker 2:It might mean that you are worried about your attractiveness or appearance, for instance. It may also indicate that you are concerned about your ability to communicate, or that you are concerned with you that you have said something embarrassing.
Speaker 3:Oh, that makes sense, because I feel like a lot of the times I'm always like, oh, I should have not said that. Well, that's interesting. Yeah, so I get that.
Speaker 2:I can get behind it. I say a lot of shit that I shouldn't say, but I've never had that dream.
Speaker 3:Really yeah. So I guess I don't, because you never regret it.
Speaker 2:No, yeah, exactly, I don't feel like oh, I'm embarrassed.
Speaker 3:I do feel it.
Speaker 1:Do you know what that word? Feeling Embarrassment, yes.
Speaker 3:Ew, ew, beep, beep, beep, oh my gosh, you've been so good about cursing today.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I guess my parents talked about me, about it, so I guess I have to be better at it.
Speaker 3:Anyways, Moving on.
Speaker 2:Dreams about dying.
Speaker 1:I've had dreams where family members die.
Speaker 2:Those are the worst Like my sisters or my parents.
Speaker 1:That's really sad it's horrible Because I wake up crying. Yeah, I bet, because they feel so real.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so after my dad passed away, all the dreams I have about my dad is him coming back and telling me that he's alive, which is devastating.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that sounds awful.
Speaker 3:Because when it first happened, when he first passed away, I had this vivid jazz Like his Rah awful, amazingly awful dream that he came and he was like, hey, I need my diabetes medication. I was a person that always got his diabetes medication. He was like can you please make me an appointment? Like at work, blah, blah, blah, like can you. And I was like, wait, you died. And he was like no, what are you talking about? I'm right here. And like I held him and I was like so excited that he didn't die. And then we went to the clinic and like everybody was like, what is your dad doing here? And I was like he didn't die, like he's here and like we got him a checkup and everything. And I woke up and I was devastated.
Speaker 2:Like.
Speaker 3:I just remember like just sinking into my grief even more. But I think it's just like I now interpreted as like a reminder that he's always with me and that even though he did physically pass away, he's still with me. But it's hard sometimes when I'm missing him and I dream that he's not dead or that he, because every time he's the one that tells me no, I didn't die, I'm right here Like well maybe that's what he means, but that's you know.
Speaker 2:yeah, I'm always with you, and that's what I've been trying to like change it to.
Speaker 3:But, at first it was just awful Like. That was just like waking up to, to not having him or like that hit reality, that he was gone was like, just like relieving it. Yeah, every time yeah.
Speaker 2:Oh, that's. I'm, so sorry.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Thank you, but it does mean that you're scared of change as well.
Speaker 3:Yeah, Not surprised I mean yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1:I don't think I'm scared of change, but maybe subconsciously.
Speaker 2:Subconsciously, you never know.
Speaker 3:Maybe it has to do with changing within your family too, because I feel like maybe when your family members make like big decisions, it's scary for them to be okay, you know.
Speaker 1:Yeah that might be it.
Speaker 2:So actually, at least according to this, the death of a loved one can reflect a similar fear of change, especially with regard to children, because as they grow up, kind of your mind has to change, and that's that can be difficult. So yeah you were right. Dreams about taking a test.
Speaker 3:No, no no, I don't think so.
Speaker 2:Dreams about impotality. Looking at you, Sonia.
Speaker 3:I had a dream once that my dad cheated on my mom and it got up and I was so pissed and I was like and if you ever he did, but that's a discussion for a different day. But yeah, I was pretty upset.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and this is just meaning that you have fears of infidelity.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I've had those dreams and really you that the other person was cheating on me and I woke up and now I was upset. Yeah, I could understand that it was ridiculous that I was really upset.
Speaker 2:Oh wait, hold on. I've had those dreams where I wake up and I'm angry. It wasn't about infidelity, but I think it was my brother not listening to what I was saying.
Speaker 3:And you're just like what the heck so mad.
Speaker 2:I was so mad I was about to text him and be like you, stupid. Listen to me in my dreams.
Speaker 3:I know. I know what's good for you, so I get that into perspective too.
Speaker 2:Yeah Got it. Dreams about flying. Yes, they're cool, they're really cool. I always get disappointed that it's ending, because you're like it feels not real. But real. Yeah.
Speaker 1:I want to have those dreams. Are you like Superman, type of flying, or like?
Speaker 3:Bird type of flying, at least.
Speaker 2:I remember once when it began and I was dreaming, but it began and I just started floating and then it took me some time and then I hit a ceiling, and then I don't know why or how, but then I was flying in the sky. But it took me a while to get used to flying, but it didn't take me long and I just have to learn it. So was it a life lesson about something? Maybe?
Speaker 1:And it's happened more than once for you guys.
Speaker 3:I flew around my school once I was trying to go somewhere, and then I just levitated and started flying through the hallways of the school and just went home and chilled and I was just flying, that's crazy, I want to dream that, yeah, it's cool. What's the reason why people are traveling?
Speaker 2:I wasn't even looking at that, I was just enjoying it. I'm not saying shit, let's see. Many people experience dreams about flying can be exciting and even liberating. That's what I felt. That's what you and I felt.
Speaker 2:They can also be quite frightening, especially for people with freedom of height. You know that's weird. I'm afraid of height too, but I wasn't scared of those dreams. No, that's super weird. Let's see Dreams about often have two very different sides. They can represent feelings of freedom and independence. On the other hand, they can also indicate a desire to flee or escape from the realities of life.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that makes sense. I was trying to flee high school.
Speaker 2:Oh, yeah, probably. I love that, I really like that. Oh, and the last one Dreams about pregnancy. This would scare me.
Speaker 3:I feel like throwing up right now and I feel like I would wake up throwing up after having this dream I have had dreams about being pregnant, but I've had a lot of dreams about having a baby girl. I literally can see her. She looks a little like me and I often dream about her. I don't know, that's cute, I can hold her and see her. And it's there I can know her.
Speaker 2:That's crazy, that's a little spooky for me, honestly.
Speaker 1:I've never had those dreams, no me either.
Speaker 3:And I'm going to go with that. Oh yeah, dana's like I don't care. I don't want to know what these mean.
Speaker 2:Let's see. Pregnancy dreams might sometimes represent a woman's fear of being an inadequate mother.
Speaker 1:Aw.
Speaker 2:Let's see Another, a different take, suggesting that pregnancy dreams indicate that the dreamer is developing some area of potential or deepening a relationship.
Speaker 1:Deepening a relationship.
Speaker 2:Different. Yeah, you like it. Yeah, those are the nine most common things. Do we want to talk about other spooky?
Speaker 1:dreams, yeah, what other dreams have you guys had?
Speaker 3:Oh, that other day. Ok, I don't know if it's my anxiety medication that I take, but it makes me dream all the time. But the other day I had a dream that we, jerome and I, had gone into this house and it was like we were fleeing zombies.
Speaker 3:And we were full on zombie apocalypse and then all of a sudden it turned around and we were in a nautical house what? And these guys were in there and they were like you took the money. And I was like what money? Why are you in here? And I was like because of the zombies.
Speaker 2:And he was like there's no zombies and I was like yes, there is, that's the reason why we're in the house.
Speaker 3:And he was like no, you took the money for the drugs. Blah, blah, blah. And I was just like how am I, la Reina del Sur Right now, queen of the South? Like what the heck, and Jerome and I were just trying to outlive the zombies and the narcos all at once. It was just a crazy dream. Were you watching? The Last of Us and narcos?
Speaker 1:that same night.
Speaker 3:No, I was not watching anything to do with any of that which was even more interesting because I was dreaming about zombies and narcos.
Speaker 2:You know what's crazy I've had that same kind of dream as well, and it was my mom and I and I was guiding her and she was just right behind me and I remember this so vividly. It was also some sort of thing going outside and we were in between these two walls hiding, and the thing that I remember the most is that In the dream I doubted myself and that got me hurt. Oh, and I was like and I woke up feeling like dang, if I would have taken the shot, if I would have run at the first instinct that I had, I would have been okay. And that's all that's kind of taught me to like trust, my instinct.
Speaker 2:And I was like, okay, maybe that was like a dream lesson, Because now I trust myself and if I got to see it in that kind of scenario, that if I would have trusted myself I would have been okay and I was. Yeah, it was so disappointing waking up, honestly.
Speaker 1:Because I was mad at myself.
Speaker 2:I was mad at myself. I was like super mad, but I felt like literal disappointment, Like dang it. If I would have trusted myself, I wouldn't have gotten killed or hurt in my dream.
Speaker 1:And I like it.
Speaker 3:No, it's good.
Speaker 2:But that's what I mean. Having that dream kind of taught me to trust myself a little bit more.
Speaker 1:Awesome. Yeah, that is interesting. I just wanted to say you mentioned maybe your medication affecting, when I started taking my anti, the presence I was having like really vivid dreams. I don't remember them anymore because my memory is the worst, but I remember that having an effect.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I don't know if that happens to a lot of people. Yeah, because like sometimes I'm like right, Just play a movie in my dreams.
Speaker 1:Like, sometimes I'm just like babe.
Speaker 3:I had this dream that I was like how do you remember your dreams? We should write them down and share them.
Speaker 2:I want to, because I also forget my dreams right away. Yeah, and oddly oddly, I have the feeling that I had the feeling in the dream.
Speaker 3:But I don't remember the why you felt that way.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that happens to me too, and I'm like what the heck, maybe I should really start writing them down as soon as I wake up, or else, like I'll start doing something and I'll forget about it.
Speaker 1:My sister, brenda, was just telling me she had a dream a couple weeks ago, maybe three, and she felt like somebody was in the room. It was kind of like those dreams where you can see yourself sleeping kind of sleep, paralysis type of dreams, so she could see that somebody was in there with her like a man, I think creepy and she felt that person touching her back and she said that when she woke up she could still feel the yes, I know. I couldn't sleep that day.
Speaker 3:I like it.
Speaker 1:Right, that's really creepy.
Speaker 2:I know has anyone anyone woken up by being having their name called? Oh, you know, I did. When I was a kid, I was living, we were living in the ranch in North North Colorado, Northern Colorado.
Speaker 1:Northern United States area. West and I remember having like someone calling you were about to say the city and everything.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I was. She needs to listen to more crime junkie, why? Okay, go on Anyways.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and I remember having my name called and I woke up and like it was night, it was nighttime, there was no one there, no one. There was no lights like that I could see on the door, like to see if my parents were awake or anything like that, and it was very creepy and it was so clear too that that still scares me to this day.
Speaker 3:I know.
Speaker 2:But this was. It only happened once, and it happened when I was a little kid.
Speaker 1:So I don't remember the voice.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it was very generic, but it was a male voice.
Speaker 3:Yeah, okay. So I don't know if this is related, but kind of Okay. So well, like back in the day when we lived in California, I used to be very religious and I never drank.
Speaker 3:So, like whenever I hung out with my friends and I was out late, it was because I was driving them around because I didn't drink. And then one day we played games at one of the girls' house and we're just like having the time of our lives. And then I checked the clock and it was like two o'clock in the morning and I was like we gotta go, like it's time to go home. I was pretty tired and so I dropped people off and then I got home and it was like lately. And then I clearly remember closing the door and going into my room and then my mom comes out and says hey, make sure you close the door all the way.
Speaker 3:And I was like I did Like maybe I was tired, I don't know what she's talking about. And she's like you didn't lock it. And I was like why are you talking about? And so I went and checked and the door was wide open, whoa. And I was like. And she was like see, you see. And I was like oh, how did you know? Like she was asleep and she says when you do things like that, I get woken up. And I was like what? So you know how? You said that somebody called out your name and your dreams. I wonder if somebody said to her the door is open and her dreams and she.
Speaker 1:And what if?
Speaker 3:Like be careful yeah like it was a warning for her. But she told me later that she did Like somebody came and told her in her head, like in her dream or by her doors open.
Speaker 2:The doors open, so she woke up.
Speaker 3:So she woke up to go check the door, because the door was open.
Speaker 2:And you know I feel like, ok, maybe you would have left the door open, but not wide open. I'm getting chills.
Speaker 3:So I don't know, like if it was related, like maybe it was a warning that somebody called out your name for a reason.
Speaker 1:I wouldn't trust it.
Speaker 3:I mean don't go to the voice, no, don't follow the voice.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I've heard that, like if you hear your name out in the woods, you do not chase it, you do not follow it. No, absolutely not. I'd be so curious though. No, don't do it.
Speaker 3:We're just sorry. I just took us to a whole different.
Speaker 1:I took us to a whole different place.
Speaker 3:Seriously, what are we doing next? I don't know. That's it, are we done?
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think we should say no, should we say our goodbyes in the episode? Stop it, you guys. You know it's your favorite segment.
Speaker 3:I think so Our favorite segment for Diana's Daily Shit, shit.
Speaker 2:Hi everyone.
Speaker 3:What are you mad about today?
Speaker 2:Today we're going to talk about online dating, what you guys don't know about it what I met my husband on an app.
Speaker 3:Oh, never mind you guys do know about it. My bad.
Speaker 2:Of course, anyways, we're pros.
Speaker 3:Yeah, pros, I won, you won, I won online dating.
Speaker 2:Claps OK, but this is what not to do.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I was talking to this guy and it was great and I really liked them and we were chatting for a bit until he mentioned he's like I need to be in front of all of us. Wait, how long were you talking before he said this Just that day, ok, but still, we were having a great conversation for the whole day until this happened, ok, and he mentioned that he has two kids from a previous marriage and at least myself, that's not what I'm looking for, because I'm still unsure if I want to have kids.
Speaker 2:And so it was very disappointing Because that's not what I'm looking for and once he mentioned that kind of, the whole vibe was ruined and it was very sad.
Speaker 3:And you feel like you should have been honest. How, like, how could he have changed that?
Speaker 2:For example, in this app you can state if you have children, and then you can make a choice from there. Exactly and that, even if I find them cute, I'm like you know what? That's not what I'm looking for, so I'm not going to initiate a conversation or I'm not going to match with this person and this individual did not have this set, so I was like oh great.
Speaker 2:And even some people have settings Like I myself. I put settings like no, I don't have kids and I'm sure about having kids. So there's all sorts of settings for that, and this individual did not be their disclose nor put what they were looking for, at least kids related. So having that would really help out with these interactions, especially if you you know if there's a connection, you can kind of skip the connection and not having to go through the emotional rollercoaster of like I, like this person but not this.
Speaker 2:So I don't know, I'm just. I wish there would have been a disclosure up front before we had this whole conversation. I opened up, he opened up and then he opened up too much, no but not enough at the beginning.
Speaker 3:Got it, but not enough at the beginning.
Speaker 2:So I don't know, that's just, and maybe I'm just a little mad because it made me feel really bad. But not gonna blame it on me, I'm gonna blame it on him.
Speaker 1:But I'm not gonna blame it on you either, but do you think that maybe that can be something that you put out there on your profile or whatever, just so people know that's not what she's looking for? So I know not to even start.
Speaker 2:It's something that I could.
Speaker 1:I mean, it would have helped you avoid these situations maybe.
Speaker 2:Like at least I could put it in my part like, hey, I'm not looking for someone who has kids, right? You know that's. I hate that you did.
Speaker 3:I hate that you did turn it around and just put it on me.
Speaker 2:Don't put it on me, no, but I do. I can put a statement out there and be like, hey, this is not what I'm looking for when I think online dating is very difficult.
Speaker 3:I went on a couple of dates before like winning but I didn't like it. It was in fun. I feel like it was a lot of bullshit, honestly, like I felt like there was a lot of times where people were not honest.
Speaker 2:A lot of times.
Speaker 3:Yeah, most of the time people were not honest with it, and I feel like some of us are like too honest with it and like we expect that same honesty back and that's not what you're getting. And some of us want to actually find like a real connection, and some people just want to hook up and just mess around, and I think that's what makes it difficult, cause then you don't know what. So, like yeah, you know we all have our preferences.
Speaker 3:We all like what we like and we I don't know. Like I really wanted to match with people that wanted to have kids. I also didn't like the idea of like dating people that already had kids because, like it's, it could be different, Like you never know. Some people have good situations co-parenting and some people don't, and I just didn't want to be involved with any of those weird situations. So I was always on the same boat as you, Diana. Like it was difficult to date people that already had kids, but I understood that at my age it was hard to date people that didn't have kids. So it was just kind of like oh, such a like weird pool, yeah.
Speaker 2:It's a little murky.
Speaker 3:But I get it. I get what you're coming from, yeah, so.
Speaker 2:I don't know. I just hope that people are a little bit. Maybe I expect too much honesty, because I am a fairly honest person, but I should put I don't know should lower my expectations.
Speaker 1:No, I don't know. I think you can just be clear about what you want from the beginning as well, and then if they lie to you, then that's like a easier way to be like okay, that's not my person because they lied. But you know from the beginning, if you match with someone, just be like, because it looks like this is a set boundary that you have, that you don't, are not willing to compromise.
Speaker 1:No, okay Then yeah, I feel like that can be your like, one of the initial conversations that you have, that way you know if you want to move forward or not yeah exactly. To save yourself from being disappointed. Exactly.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I went on a date and well, okay, so we like this guy and I we had like really good conversation, it was everything was great, he was a nice, he seemed really nice. We went on a date and I told him that I had been raised Mormon and he was like oh, I can do that. And I was like what, and he like literally you didn't say a Mormon.
Speaker 2:Now you said I was really. Yeah, I was raised Mormon.
Speaker 3:Like I, you know, like I went to church for many years and he was like no, I can't be a part of that. And like he literally ended the date and took off Like it was like the most awkward thing that's ever happened to me.
Speaker 2:That is weird.
Speaker 3:I just like didn't like, I was like did I offend him? Like what? And he was like no, I can't be a part of it. And I understand, like he was a black man, like there's a lot of racism that gets you know from the Mormon church and stuff. That's a whole other, different story. But like I thought it was just really weird and I didn't like it wasn't something that I like thought I needed to put on my online profile dating thing, but that was his boundary, that was his no goal for him.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but-. Did you ever learn about?
Speaker 3:that, though. No, he like never talked to me again, like after like, literally we were having ice cream and we started talking about religion and I said that, and then he was like I can't do that. And then he paid for our ice cream and he was like I have to go and just left me there and I was like yeah, like it was so like-.
Speaker 1:That is weird.
Speaker 3:Yeah, like it was just so weird. I like you know if there was some kind of trauma and then I texted him and I was like, did I do something? Like did I hurt your feelings? Did I offend you? I never heard anything bad from him. Oh, that's weird.
Speaker 2:So Really.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it was definitely rude, of course, but like I don't know, that was his excuse to like leave the date or what you know.
Speaker 2:But it was probably his bottom line. But you still won.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I still won. Look at your nose. Yeah, it sucks to be you.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's my take on online dating. It's very difficult. Yeah, I'm trying to pull myself out there and these things kept happening to me, but it's okay, I'm gonna take your advice and be more upfront about it. Yeah, at least that's the one thing that I can control, I guess.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, you can try that. I've had a bad situation, I guess, with someone I was dating who had kids, but for the most part I think it's been good.
Speaker 2:But I'm afraid of baby mamas.
Speaker 1:But yeah, I'm saying, if it's something that you're not willing to compromise on, then you don't have to.
Speaker 2:And avoid yourself the situation of even. Disappointment.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, that's how I feel about that, and that's that.
Speaker 3:But, you're really she's so weird I'm so chill with her daily shit.
Speaker 2:This one was kind of chill, the other one was not.
Speaker 3:Thank you for listening to my rant. Any closing thoughts on dreams? I think we should start writing them down and write a book, or you can even like voice memo your dreams, so you wake up and be fresh with it and be like that's true.
Speaker 2:That's true. Yeah, let's type voice memo.
Speaker 3:Cause it would take me too long to write them.
Speaker 1:Yeah, same. If anyone has any dreams they wanna share with us, yeah, sure, and our social media.
Speaker 3:Which one For?
Speaker 2:any online dating advice too, for Diana Type, no. No, I was gonna give my like requirements, but I was like I'm not gonna do that. Your whole list, mm-hmm, it's not a long one. That was just kidding, it's just the most, it's just an important one. Anyways, I think it's important to feel the vibe of the dream.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:To see if you need to worry about it or not.
Speaker 3:I agree, I don't like it but don't be scared of them. Unless they're scary dreams, yeah.
Speaker 2:What would you recommend people with sleep paralysis? Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3:Just wake up. Tell your body to wake up, just like a big vinyl Try that next time yeah.
Speaker 1:And if it doesn't work out, just yell at Diana.
Speaker 3:Yeah, no, I think one of the things I've been doing. Hopefully I hope nobody has this. I hate that it happens. It's so scary, but one of the things I've been just doing every time it happens is just taking time to try really hard to avoid the panic and just clear my head and remember that it is something that my body's doing.
Speaker 2:Just rationalize.
Speaker 3:Just be rational and try to go to that space instead of instant panic, because that's what I was doing. My body can't move, I'm dead, something's happened. Instant panic, anxiety. So now I try to be rational about it.
Speaker 2:OK, take a moment between the thoughts and the panic.
Speaker 3:Take a moment between there and just be like ooh.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:Pull, it's rational.
Speaker 1:Let us know if it happens again. No, I hope it doesn't. Hopefully it doesn't.
Speaker 3:But if it does, I'll let you guys know. Yes, we talked too much about it, so maybe I hope not. Anyways, thank you for listening, thank you.
Speaker 2:Have a good night See you next time.
Speaker 3:Love you.
